Studio Policies & Participation

Registration & Payment

Registration is complete once payment has been received. Unless otherwise noted, payment is due in full at the time of registration.

Because classes and workshops have limited space, your registration reserves a place specifically for you. Please take a moment to be sure the date and time work for you before registering.

Any materials fees will be clearly noted in the class or workshop description and may be collected separately, as indicated.

Cancellations, Refunds & Transfers

We understand that plans change. Our cancellation policy allows us to be as flexible as we can while also respecting the time and preparation of our visiting artists and teachers.

For workshops and classes:

• Cancellations made seven (7) or more days before the scheduled class or workshop are eligible for a refund, less any non-refundable payment or processing fees.

• Cancellations made less than seven (7) days before the scheduled class or workshop are not eligible for a refund, but you are welcome to give your place to someone else or, when possible, receive a studio credit.

• If you give your place to someone else, please let us know in advance so we have accurate registration information for everyone attending.

• Some offerings may have different cancellation or transfer policies. When that is the case, the specific policy will be stated on the registration page.

Memberships and monthly subscriptions:

Memberships and subscriptions renew automatically each month unless canceled. You may cancel at any time; cancellation stops future payments. Payments already processed are not refundable.

You are always welcome to return and rejoin at a later date, subject to available space.

If You Can't Attend

We know that life happens. However, once a class or workshop has begun, we generally cannot offer refunds for missed sessions or for cancellations due to illness, travel delays, transportation problems, changes in plans, or other personal circumstances.

If you know you cannot attend, please contact us as soon as possible. Depending on the timing and the particular offering, we may be able to transfer your registration or offer a studio credit.

Classes & Workshops Need Enough People to Run

Some classes and workshops have a minimum enrollment. If we need to cancel an offering because it has not reached its minimum enrollment, we will let registered participants know as soon as possible and provide the option to transfer to another offering, or receive a full refund.

If We Need to Cancel

Occasionally, circumstances beyond our control may require us to cancel or postpone a class, workshop, or event.

If Community Make Space or the visiting artist needs to cancel, we will contact registered participants as soon as possible. When practical, we will offer a rescheduled date. If the new date does not work for you, you may choose a full refund of your registration.

If an event must be canceled and cannot be rescheduled, registered participants will receive a full refund.

Workshop Materials & Intellectual Property

We are delighted to share the knowledge, techniques, examples, prompts, handouts, and other materials that make our classes and workshops possible. These materials are intended for your personal learning and creative practice.

Unless otherwise stated:

• Workshop handouts, written materials, digital materials, demonstrations, and other teaching content belong to the instructor or Community Make Space, as applicable.

• Please do not reproduce, publish, sell, distribute, or commercially use workshop materials or teaching content without permission.

• Audio or video recording of a class or workshop is not permitted without the express permission of the instructor and Community Make Space.

• You are, of course, encouraged to take notes, make your own work, experiment with what you learn, and carry your new skills into your own creative practice.

A Welcoming Studio

Community Make Space is a place for making, learning, experimenting, and being in good company. We ask everyone to help us keep it that way.

Please treat other participants, instructors, visiting artists, volunteers, and studio staff with kindness and respect. Harassment, discrimination, intimidation, threatening behavior, or conduct that substantially disrupts a class or makes others feel unsafe is not welcome here.

In the rare circumstance that someone's behavior seriously disrupts a gathering or compromises the safety or well-being of others, Community Make Space reserves the right to ask that person to leave and, when necessary, to decline future participation.

We don't expect everyone to agree, work the same way, or share the same perspective. We simply ask that everyone make room for one another.

Studio Safety & Personal Belongings

Many of the activities at Community Make Space involve tools, equipment, materials, inks, paints, adhesives, heat, sharp objects, or other hazards inherent in creative work. Participants are expected to follow reasonable studio safety practices and to use tools and equipment as instructed.

Please let an instructor or Studio Coordinator know if you are unsure how to use a tool or equipment. Don't hesitate to ask for help.

Community Make Space is not responsible for personal belongings that are lost, stolen, or damaged while at the studio. Please label and keep track of your tools, supplies, artwork, and other personal property.

Assumption of Risk & Liability

By participating in activities at Community Make Space, you understand that creative studio work may involve ordinary risks associated with tools, equipment, materials, and the physical workspace. You agree to take reasonable care for your own safety and to follow studio and instructor directions.

To the extent permitted by law, Community Make Space is not responsible for injuries, losses, or damages arising from a participant's failure to follow reasonable safety instructions or from risks inherent in participating in creative activities.

Community Make Space does not guarantee any particular creative, professional, business, artistic, or financial outcome from participation in a class, workshop, or other offering. What you make—and what you do with what you learn—is ultimately your own.

Nothing in these policies is intended to waive or limit any rights or responsibilities that cannot legally be waived or limited under applicable law.

Photography & Documentation

From time to time, Community Make Space or an instructor may photograph or record the studio, artwork, demonstrations, or gatherings for documentation and promotional purposes.

We will make reasonable efforts to avoid photographing people who do not wish to be included. If you would prefer not to appear in photographs or video, please let the Studio Coordinator or instructor know.

Please be mindful of other participants when taking photographs in the studio, particularly when photographing people or their work.

Questions & Good Communication

If something comes up that isn't addressed here, please ask. We would much rather have a conversation than have anyone feel uncertain about what to do.

Community Make Space reserves the right to update these policies from time to time. Any policy that applies specifically to a particular class, workshop, membership, or event will be stated on its registration page.
